The Catholic bishops of the Holy Land have issued a statement lamenting the “inhuman” conditions in which the Palestinian people are living, the Fides news service reports.
The Justice and Peace commission of the Catholic bishops’ conference lodged objections to the occupation of Palestinian lands, the demolition of homes, the humiliating searches at checkpoints, the piecemeal takeover of Palestinian properties in Jerusalem, and the siege conditions in the Gaza Strip.
The bishops’ commission said that in the absence of Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, the situation is “stagnant and lifeless, with no light of hope, not for the Israelis who need security and tranquility, neither for the Palestinians who wait for the end of the occupation and an independent state.”
