Birzeit, Palestine- Birzeit Senior Citizen Center celebrated Easter with its members and staff. The celebration included the Sacrament of Confession, Holy Communion, and blessings from Fr. Louis Hazboun and the traditional festivities of coloring eggs and making Palestinian Easter sweets, “Ma’moul”.
Mrs. Miladeh AlHaj, BSCC Member commented on the festivities, “Easter is a season where we remember how Jesus suffered for the sins of human kind and how he resurrected, taking us to holiness. We see Easter in our lives, where we suffer every day in different ways; however at the end we believe we will live a better life”.
Mrs. Adlah Jacir, BSCC member, said “We enjoyed the spirituality of Easter in addition to the joy of preparing all its stuff. BSCC is the place that we belong to and we express ourselves in. it is the place where we all feel the love and the message of Easter. We all care about each other and are willing to sacrifice for each other as Jesus sacrificed himself for us”.
Easter is a special time in Palestinian culture that is celebrated and enjoyed by observing different traditions and honoring time spent with family, friends, and loved ones. BSCC provides a place for the Living Stones to be with one another and reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
