Cardinal Maida and the Mayor of Ramallah, Palestine will address the Three Day Symposium on The Christians of the Holy Land
The Archdiocese of Detroit and the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation will hold a three-day Symposium on Christian Leadership to support the Mother Church of Jerusalem between September 26 ¡V28, 2002. The three-day event will include an Archdiocese of Detroit Leadership Forum, An Ecumenical Leadership Forum and an Arab Christian Leadership Forum.
A Banquet will be held on Saturday night, September 28, 2002 to celebrate the conclusion of the Symposium and to offer solidarity and support for the Mother Church of Jerusalem. Adam Cardinal Maida and the Mayor of Ramallah, Palestine, Ayoub Y. Rabah, will provide the keynote addresses.
The Symposium will feature religious leaders from the United States and speakers from the Holy Land who have had first hand experience living in cities like Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Ramallah during the military invasions, violence, occupation, curfews and closures. These Christians will describe the impact that the present living conditions have on Christians living in the Holy Land.
The Archdiocese Leadership Forum will bring Detroit Catholic religious leaders to gather to discuss issues related to supporting the Christians in the Holy Land. The Ecumenical Leadership Forum provides an opportunity for religious leaders of all Christian denominations in the Detroit area to come together and examine activities to support Christians in the Holy Land. The Arab Christian Leadership Forum will bring together leaders of Arabic heritage to work in concert with religious leaders to assist Holy Land Christians to maintain the 2,000 year long legacy of Christian presence in the Holy Land.
The goal of the program is to inform Christians in the Detroit area about the plight of the Christians in the Holy Land,¡¨ said Rateb Rabie, President of HCEF. The program will assist the churches and Christian leaders to form a Holy Land Christian Support Network in the Detroit area that will support Christian Churches and related activities in the Holy Land. Support Networks in other areas of the country have developed Church-to-Church partnerships, Child Sponsorship Programs for Christian Education, the Holy Land Gifts Program, sponsorship of pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Emergency Relief Fund Raising
The program is being coordinated with HCEF by Daniel J. Piepszowski, the Director of the Department of Christian Service of the Detroit Archdiocese, the sixth largest diocese in the United States. His department coordinates all activities that promote human dignity through community service and social service effort.
