HCEF officials to discuss the plight of the Holy Land Christians in Texas from August 26-30, 2002

The president of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) in Washington, DC, Rateb Rabie, KHS, will be speaking about the plight of the Christians of the Holy Land during an upcoming visit to Texas, August 26-30, 2002.  The visit will include meetings with Most Reverend Joseph A. Fiorenza, D.D, Bishop of Galveston-Houston, and Most Reverend Patrick F. Flores, D.D., Archbishop of San Antonio. It will also include a live interview on CTSA, the Catholic Television of San Antonio.

A presentation on “The Holy Land Christians…. The Forgotten Faithful” will take place on Thursday, August 29 and will include HCEF’s President, Sir Rateb Rabie, as well as Duane A. Burchick, KHS, also of HCEF, and Fr. Emil Salayta, of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The public gathering will include religious leaders and laypersons, and all who are interested are welcome to attend.  Plans to form a Holy Land Christian Support Network (HCSN) Committee in the San Antonio area will also be discussed. Sir Rateb Rabie and Fr. Emil Salayta will also participate in an interview on “Catholicism Live,” with hosts Deacon Tom and Mary Jane Fox on Wednesday, August 28. The program will air from 8 to 9 p.m. Central Time on CTSA and will be repeated on Thursday morning at 11am. The plight of the Holy Land Christians will be the focus of the program. The events in San Antonio will follow meetings with Most Reverend Patrick F. Flores, D.D., Archbishop of San Antonio, on August 29, 2002, and with Most Reverend Joseph A. Fiorenza, D.D, Bishop of Galveston-Houston. Sir Rateb and Fr. Emil Salayta will also meet with leaders of First Presbyterian Church in Houston. Sir Rateb will be delivering a message on behalf of His Beatitude Michel Sabbah, the , Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

During the appointments in both San Antonio and Houston, Sir Rateb Rabie will discuss the plight of the indigenous Christians living in the Holy Land Palestinian cities and towns in the West Bank and Gaza.  The latest developments in the Holy Land occasioned by the Israeli invasions, curfews, home demolitions, and military occupation threatens the very existence of Christianity in the land of its birth.
