French President Emmanuel Macron has honored Jordanian Dr. Ramia Baqa’in by bestowing on her the National Order of Merit with the insignia of Knight.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, French Ambassador to Jordan Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison awarded her the medal in the presence of her brothers and sisters, a number of priests, the president of Yarmouk University, University of Jordan teachers, as well as a number of deputies, dignitaries, media personnel, and friends.
In an address, French Ambassador Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison greeted Dr. Ramia Zuhair Suleiman Baqa’in who had worked as a teacher at the Latin Patriarchate School in Al-Wasiya, Karak, then acquired her doctorate degree at the prestigious French Sorbonne University and then returned home to become a professor of chemistry. She obtained several international awards most notably the award of the L’Oréal Foundation and the UNESCO award in Beirut in 2015.
Dr. Ramia is distinguished for working on developing new methods in chemical separation process. This includes discarding environmental pollutants from soil, water, and nutrients. She currently designs and develops chemical techniques designed to find solutions with high accuracy and low cost which could get rid of environment and toxic materials pollutants.
Concluding his address, the French ambassador turned to Dr. Ramia Baqa’in saying: “In the name of the president of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, I bestow on you the National Order of Merit with the insignia of Knight.” Then, he presented her with the emblem the official certificate.
Later, Dr. Baqa’in expressed gratitude for this honoring and thanked the president of France, the French ambassador to Jordan, the French embassy staff, as well as her family and everyone who encouraged her to pursue academic achievement for more than 20 years of continuous excellence in scientific research in chemistry.
