The Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations’ visit to Jordan takes place on March 11-14 and marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of full diplomatic relations between Jordan and the Holy See.
According to the programme released by the Secretariat of State, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher meets with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein on Monday, as well as with Ayamen Saladi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The Archbishop is also scheduled to visit the Hashemite Charitable Organization, a center for collecting humanitarian aid sent from Jordan to the Gaza Strip.
Later in the day, he will celebrate Mass with Catholic Bishops from across the Holy Land and with Catholic communities in Jordan at the Church of Saint Mary of Nazareth in Sweifah, Amman.
Visit to the sites of Jesus’ Baptism
On Tuesday, Archbishop Gallagher will hold a meeting with the assembly of Ordinaries of the Holy Land and visit the Caritas reception center for Iraqi and Syrian refugees in the city of Madaba.
On Wednesday, he is set to visit the holy sites of Jesus’ Baptism, Mount Nebo, and Machaerus.
On the same day, the Archbishop will meet the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Makram Mustafa Queisi.
Finally, on Thursday, the last day of the visit, Archbishop Gallagher will meet with Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, the United Nations’ Palestinian relief agency.
